Contractors engaging in Home Improvement Contracts must be careful to comply with strict requirements of Business & Professions Code section 7159.
Home Improvement Contractors Must Be Very Careful

Contractors in California performing home improvement contracts are required to comply with the Home Improvement Contract laws, located at California Business and Professions Code section 7150, et seq. The risks of noncompliance can be devastating to a contractor’s ability to get paid by the Owners, and in many instances, violations could subject the contractor to discipline by the Contractors State License Board.

Any contractor doing home improvement contracts is well advised to familiarize himself with these requirements.

Furthermore, the Code sets forth specific and detailed requirements regarding the form and content of any Home Improvement Contract. These requirements are located at Business and Professions Code section 7159.

A recent article in Los Angeles Lawyer magazine has characterized the home improvement business and being the most regulated industry in the State of California, due to the onerous requirements imposed by the legislature.
